Hi, I am taking part in the
Blogger's Quilt Festival and am very excited about it!! I have only been blogging about my quilting since December so missed the last two. I have spent ages trying to decide what to show and even tried to get a new one finished, but ran out of binding at the last minute - the fabric I'm using is from the States so there is no way of finishing it! So I have decided to show the second quilt I made, which in some ways is my first.
Twenty odd years ago I attended an exhibition in Atlanta on slave quilts, it made a huge impression on me and I vowed that one day I would make my own quilt. I finally got round to starting a quilt when I was pregnant with my first child nine and a half years ago, motherhood took over and I never finished it, that is until two years ago - that is when I got the bug. I enrolled in a block a month workshop and the quilt I am showing is the one I produced from there.

It turned out to be the most expensive quilt in the world!! I had chosen Japanese Daiwabo fabrics which are extortionately priced in the UK, that combined with the cost of the workshops really brought the price up - but it was worth it and I learnt so may skills and was seriously hooked. The quilt is a mixture of machine and hand piecing, paper and English piecing, appliqué etc. and is hand quilted. Since then I have produced loads more quilts, which are much better made and in fabrics that I now prefer! So please excuse all it's flaws.
In December I started my blog and discovered Flickr and they opened up this whole wonderful community of quilters.
Thank you Amy for organising such a wonderful exhibition.
Make sure you visit all the other quilters sharing their quilts and be inspired!
