Bloggers Quilt Festival May 21st -28th 2010
Hi, I am taking part in the Blogger's Quilt Festival and am very excited about it!! I have only been blogging about my quilting since December so missed the last two. I have spent ages trying to decide what to show and even tried to get a new one finished, but ran out of binding at the last minute - the fabric I'm using is from the States so there is no way of finishing it! So I have decided to show the second quilt I made, which in some ways is my first.
Twenty odd years ago I attended an exhibition in Atlanta on slave quilts, it made a huge impression on me and I vowed that one day I would make my own quilt. I finally got round to starting a quilt when I was pregnant with my first child nine and a half years ago, motherhood took over and I never finished it, that is until two years ago - that is when I got the bug. I enrolled in a block a month workshop and the quilt I am showing is the one I produced from there.
It turned out to be the most expensive quilt in the world!! I had chosen Japanese Daiwabo fabrics which are extortionately priced in the UK, that combined with the cost of the workshops really brought the price up - but it was worth it and I learnt so may skills and was seriously hooked. The quilt is a mixture of machine and hand piecing, paper and English piecing, appliqué etc. and is hand quilted. Since then I have produced loads more quilts, which are much better made and in fabrics that I now prefer! So please excuse all it's flaws.
In December I started my blog and discovered Flickr and they opened up this whole wonderful community of quilters.
Thank you Amy for organising such a wonderful exhibition.
Make sure you visit all the other quilters sharing their quilts and be inspired!

Laura Gunn Poppies Quilt Top
Well I sewed and I sewed and I finished my quilt top and am really quite pleased with it! It really is the most amazing fabric, one of my all time faves, so it couldn't look too bad ever.
Although the light in my living room is atrocious and the only camera charged is my iphone so the picture isn't too good and you can't see the spots so well. So here is a detail...
and a closer one...
Now all I need to do is quilt and bind ha ha! I am using Laura's skinny stripey to bind when the rest comes, I only had a fat quarter and they don't sell it in England so it will be a while before I can finish it. So frustrating.

Finally cut into my Laura Gunn!

Oh no! More must have fabrics!
Yesterday I spent a fortune on fabric and then I spot this - I must have it, I must, I must.

Sewn together bee May blocks
Finally done my May blocks! Admittedly after finishing my June block but finished all the same.
This one is called drunk love, I really fancy doing a few for myself I love the simplicity of it.
This is a slightly wonky log cabin for a Lakers fan, there was some spare so I did most of another block.
All that remains is to send them off with my June fabric - hurray!
